Precious Opals display brilliant opalescence, with rainbow-like iridescence that changes with the angle of observation. The Greeks prized precious Opals as much as diamonds. Other, more common Opals do not show the play of colors, but often display a translucent, pearly luster, such as the pink and blue opalites from South America and opalized wood from several locations around the world. Opals are seductive stones associated with love and passion, and are believed to intensify emotional feelings and release inhibitions.
